More pictures from Rondônia

I added a link on the right to a site that's called "As linhas". There are beautiful pictures from the countryside of Rondônia.

Flowers this morning

Embarrassingly enough I don't know the name of this plant... I just love the flowers, the smell and the fact that it's right outside our bedroom window!

The fence

I love the different colours of wood. In my opinion this doesn't need any paint.

On her way to ballet classes

Acerola II

The kids love picking acerola and today they got me some so that I could make juice, this time only acerola without lime. Look at the colours of that fruit!

Bread

I baked bread yesterday. I love the process of making bread - how the ingredients form a dough that you mix with you hands and how the yeast makes the dough grow into a delicious warm loaf. I mixed only a little oat in this one, that's why it's so white. Hubby has been asking for a sweeter (or "more Brazilian type") bread so I added sugar to the dough - he was so happy!

Acerola

This is the first real harvest of our acerola (malpighia glabra) tree since we moved here. Yesterday all of a sudden I realised that the tree was full of red fruits just waiting to be picked. Today we made a delicious juice with acerola and lime.

Wood for a fence.

Wood for Gilson's new house.

Daily life

Leila's laundry.

Talking about using a tractor to transport some wood.

The main means of transportation in Lamarca.

The wood wasn't tied properly and it fell off the tractor.

Sunset.

School in Lamarca - A escola em Lamarca

Boys running to school before 7 am.

The current school building (Gilmar's house).

Teacher Nirley watching over the kids from the window during a break.

Rafael concentrating on school work.

Lamarca is a landless movement's (called Liga dos Camponeses Pobres) settlement some three hours by bus from Jaru. There is a tiny school of less than 10 students (at the moment) for grades 1-4. The students are temporarily using one of the houses as a school building and they're hoping to get their new school built before the beginning of the next academic year that starts in February 2009.

Rodoviária dos Colonos

Rodoviária dos Colonos is a smaller bus station where you catch a bus to the countryside. It's a lively and colourful place located next to the market right in the centre of Jaru.
