Embarrassingly enough I don't know the name of this plant... I just love the flowers, the smell and the fact that it's right outside our bedroom window!
The kids love picking acerola and today they got me some so that I could make juice, this time only acerola without lime. Look at the colours of that fruit!
I baked bread yesterday. I love the process of making bread - how the ingredients form a dough that you mix with you hands and how the yeast makes the dough grow into a delicious warm loaf. I mixed only a little oat in this one, that's why it's so white. Hubby has been asking for a sweeter (or "more Brazilian type") bread so I added sugar to the dough - he was so happy!
This is the first real harvest of our acerola (malpighia glabra) tree since we moved here. Yesterday all of a sudden I realised that the tree was full of red fruits just waiting to be picked. Today we made a delicious juice with acerola and lime.

Lamarca is a landless movement's (called Liga dos Camponeses Pobres) settlement some three hours by bus from Jaru. There is a tiny school of less than 10 students (at the moment) for grades 1-4. The students are temporarily using one of the houses as a school building and they're hoping to get their new school built before the beginning of the next academic year that starts in February 2009.
Rodoviária dos Colonos is a smaller bus station where you catch a bus to the countryside. It's a lively and colourful place located next to the market right in the centre of Jaru.
